TIPS - The Senses 9-12 month
Ages: 9-12mElements: The Senses
- Allow the baby to sit at the table and eat with his hands. Eating is perhaps the best sensory stimulation as it stimulates all five senses at once.
- When you are looking at a picture with the baby, first show the whole picture and talk about it. Afterwards, point out the details.
- Point out items of interest as you walk outside, such as a flower, or a passing dog. This motivates the baby to explore his world more.
- Share your enjoyment of a pleasant sound, smell or taste with the baby, reinforcing the idea that the world offers much pleasure – and it is there for everyone.
- Give the baby geometrically shaped blocks, draw his attention to them and name the different shapes.
- Point out the variety of sounds you hear together, so the baby can learn to what they are related to. Point out the item that emits the sound, and call it by name. For instance, point to the sky and name the plane passing overhead.
- Offer the baby a wide variety of toys, of different shapes, textures and materials, and place him on a variety of surfaces to crawl on, and explore with his hands and mouth.
