From Baby to Toddler

Your little one is no longer a baby but a little toddler - he walks, expresses his will all too clearly, and has a rich sensory experience of the world around him. His sensory system continues to evolve with time and experiences, but his senses are now fully capable of processing information for his age-appropriate needs.

Continued Importance of Parental Guidance

Your toddler's mature, developed senses enable him to accurately understand and process a wealth of information, but his inexperience causes him to overlook noteworthy information. Therefore, parental involvement is ever so important: call your child's attention to differences and similarities between shapes, sounds, sensations, flavors and smells.

Milestones
  • At 18 months, your baby's senses are fully developed - just like an adult. Continued sensory experiences will hone his five senses and develop them.
Tiny Tips
  • Create your very own band by playing musical instruments together with your toddler.
  • Your little toddler will love cooking dinner with you: this messy activity is a fantastic stimulant for the senses - allow her to stir, blend, pour and taste.

The Senses

The five senses help all babies, children and adults navigate the world. Through the five senses, we receive the information from our surroundings, so that we are able to cognitively explore and process it. Our senses literally open the world to us, and help to expand the scope of our understanding at every turn.

Understanding and Sense of Control

As they grow, babies begin to understand the connection between cause and effect. They see that there is a connection between their actions and the world around them and begin to realize that they can make interesting things happen.
